Nicosia, Republic of Cyprus.

The international conference regarding the situation in Ukraine known as “Hybrid war against Ukraine and its role in the European safety”  took place on the 15th November 2017 in Nicosia, Cyprus. Documentaries about Ukraine were presented at the conference. Baltic Black Sea Safety Confederation experts and the Kremlin Watch analyst R. Maza from Czech Republic were the speakers at the conference. In his opening remarks, the Ukrainian Ambassador for Cyprus B. Humenyuk expanded on the relevance of hybrid war in the modern context, the need to provide accurate information about the current situation in Ukraine in relation to the Russian aggression and to work effectively in order to reduce the influence of Russian propaganda on global political decisions. The experts from Ukraine focused on the role of Ukraine in the system of European safety in the context of hybrid confrontation and Russia’s growing military presence in Crimea after the occupation as well as the situation in the East of Ukraine caused by the Russian aggression. R. Maza, the media-propaganda and disinformation expert from Czech Republic shed a light on the question of hybrid propaganda affecting the political elite in Europe. He particularly referred to Czech Republic as an example, explaining the influence of Russian propaganda on the political situation in the country and how the general public understands the situation in Ukraine.

After the speeches, the participants of the conference engaged into a fruitful discussion. The presentation of visual art project “Ukraine: Tiding Over” was also held during the event. In the eyes of foreign and Ukrainian photographers and filmmakers, this project highlights the “tiding over” process for Ukraine and how the country is overcoming the occupation of its territories in the South-East region as well as the tough information war.
